It has been a busy week for Brereton Wheelers members. On Wednesday night they held a rollers session at Rugeley leisure centre to showcase the club and talk to interested parties. Graham Birch, Steve Moss and Ian Beard put in some good efforts on a Tacx simulator machine, kindly brought to the venue by Ian Beard. The simulator allowed the riders to race a road course against the clock. A fine effort by Graham Birch set the fastest time. The others will be waiting for the next session on 6th April to try and beat it.
On Saturday four club members attended a British Cycling seminar at Warwick University in order to further the club’s Go Ride application. Go Ride is being promoted by British Cycling and Sky to introduce youngsters into the sport of cycling and cycle racing. Phil Deakin, Andy Siers, Nigel Capewell and Angus Page all attended the day long courses run by British Cycling. Brereton Wheelers now have two qualified coaches in Andy Siers and Graham Birch, who will be putting on coaching sessions for youngsters in the near future.
On Sunday one of the clubs coaches Andy Siers was putting Brereton Wheelers member Ann Robinson through some technical skills before her first mountain bike race of the year at the end of March. We wish her all the best for that event and others in the future.
With members injured and others with family commitments there was a smaller group than usual to go out on the Sunday club run. Ian Beard, Ian Robinson and returning rider Adam made the most of the drier weather and set out from Rugeley Leisure centre on a gentle forty mile loop through Fradley and Catton Park before returning to Rugeley via Yoxall and Armitage. The next club run will be from Rugeley Leisure centre on 13th March at 9.30. Any one interesting in cycling and Brereton Wheelers should visit www.breretonwheelerscc .co.uk.
